Beauty for Ashes

dried flower still life

Feeling distraught, devastated or, a spirit of heaviness? Mulling over the frailty of being human? You’re not alone. No one is exempt from pain and challenges, be it emotional, physical, or psychological. Hurts come in varying degrees and can come from anywhere – loss, trauma, abuse, or betrayal. No need to give up in despair. There is good news! We can overcome. We can learn from the challenges. We can use our painful experiences to help others overcome as well.

Out of the ashes comes something beautiful. This beauty is ontological – a state of being. It begins in the heart and is seen in the manifestation of the Spirit’s fruits – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. We are not promised a pain free life. We are promised a Comforter and a Helper.

There is comfort and hope.

Where do we find it? In the God of all comfort. When God says “all”, He means all. He promises to comfort us in all our affliction. With His goodness and love, He gives us beauty for our ashes. Weeping may last for a night but for those who put their trust in Him, joy comes in the morning.

We can hold on to Him in our darkest hours. We do not have to wallow in our pain. Instead, we focus on and abide in Jesus so that His joy may remain in us, and that our joy may be full. Note that it is not a partial joy. Our fluctuating degrees of abiding in Him is what produces partial joy. We only experience this fullness of joy when we abide in Him fully. He is altogether good and faithful! What a beautiful thought!

to bestow on them

a crown of beauty instead of ashes,

the oil of joy instead of mourning,

and a garment of praise

instead of a spirit of despair.”

Isaiah 61:3

May pure supernatural joy be poured in your life.

Peace be with you!
