“Language learning is about much more than heaps of books and hours of study. It’s about traveling to marvelous places, meeting inspiring people, enjoying delicious food and embarking on innumerable journeys of self-discovery”. – Luca Lampariello
I relate to this quote, learning a new language entails all of this and much more. It has taken me on a deeper journey of self-discovery. It is simply not learning new words or a new way of talking but it teaches one a lot about “oneself”. It’s another way of thinking. ¡Qué maravilloso!
I am especially fond of English (my mother tongue), Spanish and French. I have learned all three at degree level. However, Spanish is my true love. Cuanto más estudio, menos sé (The more I study, the less I know =). I do not claim to be an expert in any of the three, rather a perpetual student and aficionada.
Use it or lose it! Without regular practice, your language skills will eventually deteriorate like my French. ¡Qué lástima!
The best way to learn is through language immersion, that is to travel and live among native speakers. In the interim, actively participate and practice by listening to music and talk radio, watching telenovelas jaja, reading, as well as learning new words and phrases every day. It becomes un estilo de vida (a way of life)!
